Happy Father's Day

Reagan and I made blueberry muffins for Darrell while he was at the grocery store this morning. We enjoyed our breakfast and then headed over to Dad's house. We found out a couple of weeks ago that the tumor has almost doubled in size within the past couple of months. He started chemo through the IV this past Tuesday. He is doing ok with it so far, just very tired and hasn't felt like eating too much the past couple of days. We had stopped over at Central Market and picked up some lunch to take over so that we we could enjoy lunch with him. He was able to eat and when I went over again this afternoon, he was looking for more food, so that is a good sign.

We were really surprised to hear the news about the tumor as he has felt better than he has in a long time these past couple of months. The plan right now is to do the chemo every couple of weeks and then get an MRI in a couple of months to see how it is reacting. The oncologist sounded very positive that the chemo treatment he will be taking will help slow the growth down.

Dad is surprisingly positive about the news as well and just keeps saying that they told him back in September that he had 2 months if he did nothing and here we are almost 9 months down the road and he's still around. He said he went into this a gambling man and if he's up now, why does he want to stop? I'm really glad that he's in this mindset right now.

Other things have been pretty good. We have been so busy with our new jobs. The Senate is in Special Session right now, but should hopefully be winding down soon. We are lucky that Darrell is not working the long hours that he was the month of May. There were lots of days that the only time that Reagan would get to see them was the half hour that they would spend getting ready for school in the morning.

Darrell had to work Memorial Day Weekend, so my friend Amanda and I loaded up Reagan and her little girl, Ella, who is 3, and took them down to the beach. Amanda's Grandparents live in Ingleside, which is really close to Port Aransas, so we stayed with them and had a couple of trips to the beach. Reagan helped Amanda's cousin catch a fish and got to go on his first boat ride as well. We had a great weekend and the kids did pretty well for the most part. I was really glad to get to spend that time with such a great friend and her family.

The next weekend, Darrell was off work, so Saturday night, the three of us went to the Round Rock Express Baseball game. Reagan loves baseball and hot dogs so much and he had a great time running around the stadium and eating. We will definitely have to get back out there sometime soon!
