Ear Infection Round 2

So, a week ago last Thursday, we took Reagan to Dr. Day for his post ear infection check-up. She said that the ears looked great. The next Tuesday, I dropped Reagan off at school, went to get a breakfast taco and a cup of coffee, and pulled into the parking garage at work. I was just about to get out of the car when my phone rang. It was the daycare saying that Reagan had a 102 fever. Darrell had no gone to work yet, so he went and got him and I called the doctor to make an appointment. When I told them what was going on, they had me bring him right in to re-check the ears. We got over there and his temperature was almost 102.7 and they said that the ears looked fine. Dr. Day was leaving the next day to go out of town for a week and said that she was going to leave notes with her back-up for a plan of action in case things were to turn worse.

So, Wednesday, I stayed home with him in the morning and Darrell stayed home with him in the afternoon. He was still running fever most of the day, so Darrell stayed home with him again on Thursday. He didn't run any fever all day on Thursday, so it was back to daycare on Friday. They said he was 'sensitive' at daycare, which probably means he was a little irritable, but he made it through the day.

Saturday we really went and got the granite tile and back splash so that Darrell can re-do the kitchen since he is on vacation this week. On Father's Day, we had a good day. My Dad came over and he, Darrell, Reagan, and I went to eat lunch at Threadgill's. Reagan was in a pretty good mood and ate well. We came back home and watch the U.S. Open Golf tournament for a while. Reagan was still in a good mood, playing with Grandpa and just hanging out, even though it was way past his nap time and he hadn't taken one yet. Dad left around 1:30 and Darrell started laying out some of the tile so that he could mark where he was going to have to cut. Reagan got SUPER upset and just started screaming. We figured that he was just tired, so Darrell came and sat down with him to try and get him calmed down. He slept about 15 minutes and woke up and just screamed. I thought that maybe if I got him in the car he would go to sleep, so he and I got in the car and headed over to my Mom's. We got over there and he ate a little and played some and then I put the mat from the play yard down in the floor and he layed down and went to sleep for about 10 minutes. Then he woke up screaming again. After being over there a couple of hours (and giving Darrell the time he needed to mark the tiles) we headed back home. When I got him out of the car, he was really warm. I took his temperature and it was 101.5. Darrell took him upstairs and gave him a cool bath and gave him some Motrin to help get the fever down. About 5 pm, he finally went to sleep and then slept off and on until around 9. He would wake up and just cry and his fever got up to about 103.7. I called the urgent care number for our doctor and told them what was going on and they had a nurse call me back. She basically told me to keep doing what we were doing and they had someone call me to make an appointment for the next day.

So, at 8:20 Monday morning, we were back at the doctor's office. We had to see another doctor since Dr. Day is still out of town. Dr. Broberg was very nice and told us that Reagan had an ear infection in both ears again. He said now that we have had two so close together, we are really going to start watching how the infections respond to the antibiotics, how far apart they are, and how easy it is to heal them. As a child that had bad problems with my ears which eventually resulted in having tubes put in, that puts Reagan at a higher risk of having issues with his ears as well. After the first couple of rounds of antibiotics yesterday, the fever was all gone and we sent him back to daycare today. They said he was in a really good mood today and he also took a 2 1/2 nap. He usually takes about a two hour nap, but since they knew he had been sick, they just let him sleep. They also said that this was the first time that he went to sleep all by himself, they didn't even have to pat him or anything! I'm so proud of him.

As I mentioned earlier, Darrell is working on the kitchen this week. He's laid all the granite tile on the counters and put up the back splash. After dinner, we went over to Home Depot and got a new sink and faucet and picked out paint for the cabinets. Tomorrow, Darrell will install the new sink and faucet and put the grout on the back splash and tile. It is looking really amazing so far and I'm so proud of the job that he's done! I am so very lucky to be married to such a handy man! I will be posting pictures of the kitchen soon!!

In the meantime, here is a picture of Reagan sleeping on the mat on Sunday.
