Surgery Went Well

I was really worried about him being hungry this morning because we couldn't feed him past certain times because of the anesthesia. We gave him his last solid food (apricot and mixed fruit) at 9:30 pm and his last formula at 10 pm. We were told that we couldn't give him anything other than water or juice after 3 am. He slept all the way through the night and we got him up at about 7 this morning and gave him some juice, but he was cut off of everything at 7:30 am.

We headed up to the surgery center and had to check in at 9 and our surgery was scheduled at 10. We got there and they took us right in to pre-op. Reagan was very cranky, but he seemed to be tired more than anything. He usually get his first nap in the morning around 8am, he time I drop him off at Mom's in the morning. He normally takes about a 1-1 1/2 hour nap at that time, so this morning, he hadn't had his morning bottle or his nap either. His tired was a very tired cry and he kept trying to go to sleep on Darrell and I, but would here noises and wake up. Here are some pics of him in his awesome peach hospital gown and fuzzy hospital issue yellow socks right before they took him into surgery.
The doctor told us that they do the surgeries on the youngest children first. Reagan was the 4th and last surgery of the day, so that means there were 3 babies younger than Reagan having surgery. It made me sad. They took Reagan into surgery about 10:45 and the doctor came and spoke with us about 1:15 when the procedure was complete. He said that everything went smoothly and just as planned. He told us not to be alarmed, that his little man parts are going to be very swollen and bruised for the next 4-6 weeks, but he will be fine after that. He does have a little catheter to drain the pee and we have to double diaper him until that comes out next week. The inside diaper is to catch the poo and we have to cut a hole in that one so that the pee can drain into the outside diaper. This keeps the bacteria from the poo away from the incision area.
They finally brought Reagan back to us about 2pm. He was very, very lethargic and barely woke up to look at us. They had me feed him to make sure that he could hold his food down. He took about 2 ounces and he was so passed out that he wouldn't eat any more. He held that down and they let us go home at about 3:30.
He has been very, very mellow all evening. The doctor us had given us prescriptions last week for his Tylenol with codeine for the pain and an antibiotic as well. I had gotten them filled over the weekend so we didn't need to worry about waiting for them today. He wants to move around, but when he tries to put himself from a sitting position into the crawling position, he gets pretty upset. I know he's really tender in that area down there and I'm sure that position doesn't feel good. The nurse told us to make sure that we give him the Tylenol every 4 hours to prevent him from hurting and not to wait until he gets to the point where he does hurt. We gave him his next dose at 5:30 and he was pretty sleepy again. He has been a little bit fussy, but not as bad as I thought it was going to be.
He's taken 3 bottles and after he was grabbing for the bowl of food that Darrell made me for dinner, we decided to give him some solid food. He ate a whole container of sweet potatoes with corn about 6 this evening. He still seemed really hungry around 8, which is the time that we normally feed him dinner, so I gave him half of a container of apricots and he ate them all and I gave hi two bites of banana and he barfed everywhere. That was the end of the feeding.
Darrell and I gave him a sponge bath, which is what we have to do for the next week, and he still seemed to enjoy his bath time. He squealed and laughed, so I guess we didn't hurt him.
We are thankful to have the worst part of this past us and now we just need to get through the recovery. I am so glad that Darrell and I have both taken the remainder of the week off so that we can be here with him. I will keep everyone posted as to how he is doing.
Thanks to everyone for all of their thoughts and prayers!
